Southern Archipelago Ltd. is pleased to announce that we have acquired a 27% stake in Labrador Hill Pte Ltd. Labrador Hill’s holdings include eco-conscious boutique hotel Villa Samadhi and authentic Thai-Shan restaurant Tamarind Hill, both of which are located in the lush natural surroundings of Singapore’s Labrador Park.
This acquisition marks the Group’s bold entry into the hospitality and wellness industry, which will be a key focus of our strategic restructuring and expansion strategy in the next five years.
As the global economy enters a post-Covid-19 recovery stage, we believe the hospitality and wellness sector will be among the first and earliest to make a strong recovery. This is also well aligned with our mission to invest and build holistic, sustainable and environmentally-friendly properties that benefit our guests, stakeholders and the communities we are based in.
Villa Samadhi is a 20-room boutique hotel housed in a 1920s black and white colonial building in Labrador Park, a cherished nature reserve in the city-state. Lovingly restored over three years, this historic building showcases a bygone era of life and preserves an essential aspect of Singapore’s history. A visit to the tranquil environs of Villa Samadhi is an invitation for the guest to leave their daily worries behind and to access the state of samadhi, which in Sanskrit refers to the highest state of meditation when the mind is still, at peace and in bliss.
From the hotel, it is a leisurely two-minute stroll on a jungle boardwalk to reach Tamarind Hill restaurant. Take a moment to bask in the grandeur of the standalone colonial bungalow, complete with luxurious high ceilings and stately 4m long chandeliers. The restaurant specialises in contemporary Thai and Shan cuisine with a menu of almost 100 recipes which have been meticulously prepared by a team of chefs with the freshest of seasonal ingredients to transport the diner to gastronomic nirvana. An extensive wine list of over 140 bottles and 40 wines by the glass ensures a perfect pairing to cater to every taste preference.
Our first foray into hospitality and wellness, the Labrador Hill properties set a high bar for the future growth of our portfolio, as we continue to invest in similar rustic-luxe experiences in Southeast Asian destinations that showcase the luxuriant and healing bounty of our natural landscape.
